Sunday 8 September

The first unstable Sunday for a while, and a chance of soaring from a winch launch.
Vivienne & Pete were first away in JW, into a 400-500 ft/min thermal within 20 sec's of release. We climbed in this to a comfortable height, then a few slower climbs, until we got into the wave proper. We were able to run down to Roxburgh at around 90knts+, and a little slower 20km's or so further south in weaker barely marked wave. A southerly wind component allowed a faster return, and up to the edge of airspace over lake Dunstan north of Cromwell.
Link to some pic's of the flight.

The wave obviously moved somewhat, so that JR was unable to soar for long after three attempts.
It was good to see Brian, for a check flight after a 6 months not flying. He & Jack had a number flights with Doug & solo, managing to extend some with a few circles.

We have cunningly avoided locating the bar key, so converged on Doug and Christine again for a few drinks. Also we watched JR's videos of his recent stint working at Scott Base.
Thanks Doug and Christine, and to Phil for driving the winch.
